While Łódź doesn’t (yet) have the Michelin restaurants of Warsaw and Kraków, the culinary scene is flourishing. Most menus fall into the medium bracket, with a few outliers at the upper and lower ends. We have listed a range of recommended places to get you started.
Restauracja Stary Rynek 2
Eating out plays a huge part in the post-industrial reinvention of Łódź. Most are clustered along the 4km stretch of ul. Piotrkowska, and within the dozens of little passageways that branch off it. These include a growing handful of converted factory complexes, chock full of interesting restaurants to try, including Manufaktura and its more fashionable sibling OFF Piotrkowska. In short, there is an incredible amount of choice here.
A great way to get to know the city’s culinary scene – and to meet new people – is to take part in a well-organised food and drink tour. This traditional Polish food tour, available through GetYourGuide, gives an introduction to Polish culture over the course of a leisurely afternoon or evening.
Recommended Restaurants In Łódź
We have listed suggestions for a range of different restaurants, mostly in the mid- and upper-mid price bracket. However, Łódź is very much a city in transition and new areas are being renovated at a dizzying pace. New restaurants are often the outriders as districts get a makeover. There is also a map, so you can find exactly where each is located.
- Anatewka – Manufaktura: The Manufaktura branch of Anatewka, a restaurant serving local Łódź specialities with a heavy Jewish influence, and an atmospheric interior to match. There’s live music on Sunday lunchtimes.
- Whiskey in the Jar: With restaurants in five Polish cities, Whiskey in the Jar serves American roadhouse meat and booze. Bring a big appetite!
- Restauracja Stary Rynek 2: Stary Rynek is an elegant Art Nouveau restaurant that harks back to the Polish cuisine of the pre-war era. Tasting and seasonal menus are available.
- Ristorante Mare e Monti: Mare e Monti mixes the popular pasta and pizza items with a lesser-known side of Italian regional cooking. Recommended, especially as you’re unlikely to stumble over it by accident.
- Forno Nero Pizza Napoletana: With authentic stone-oven neapolitan pizzas and a central location, Forno Nero is a great choice for a hearty, fuss-free meal just off Łódź’s main shopping street.
- Ato Sushi: For Japanese food with high-quality ingredients, Ato Sushi is probably the best in Łódź, with an experience that starts the minute you walk in the door.
- Anatewka: One of two branches of Anatewka, a restaurant serving local Łódź specialities with a heavy Jewish influence, and an atmospheric interior to match, close to the Philharmonia building.
- Złoty Imbir: Złoty Imbir is a sit-down Chinese restaurant, a street over from Piotrkowska, with a selective menu of attractive starters, soups, and generous main courses.
- Lavash Restaurant: A visit to Poland brings the opportunity to try an Eastern European cuisine that is harder to find at home. Lavash is an appetising Georgian and Armenian restaurant, in the very centre of Łódź.
- Ato Ramen: A local favourite and widely regarded as one of the tastiest restaurants in Łódź, Ato Ramen offers big, healthy bowls of noodles, as well as a few less well-known Japanese meals.
- Otwarte Drzwi: There is no shortage of Italian restaurants in Łódź, admittedly, but the discreet outdoor seating in Otwarte Drzwi make this a good choice in the centre of the city.
- Aloha Poke: If you’re new to the Hawaiian poke bowl, this cool and intimate restaurant might be the best way to get acquainted. A hidden gem amongst the Łódź eating scene.
- Galicja Restaurant: Galicja’s menu takes inspiration from the historically-shifting borders of Central and Eastern Europe, and offers hearty and homey dishes for the hungry.
- Señoritas Restaurant&Lounge: In a stately side street off the main drag, Señoritas Restaurant&Lounge serves up generous portions of spicy Mexican favourites, with some top-class regional booze to warm your cheer.
- Manekin: With every kind of crêpe and pancake, sweet or savoury, for late breakfast, brunch, lunch, or an evening meal, Manekin is a storybook restaurant with a lot of kid appeal.
- Laxmi: A cosy basement Indian restaurant in the heart of Łódź, Laxmi has plenty of familiar dishes and a big selection of vegetarian options.
- Trattoria Italiana: With a different way of working than most restaurants, Francesco Mamela’s Trattoria Italiana has an ever-changing menu of regional fish and meat, cooked according to the customer’s taste.
- Al Dente Pasta & Prosecco Bar: While there’s no shortage of places to eat around the Manufaktura district, Al Dente is an upbeat space for a social meal. The food is Italian-based with a few tempting luxuries.
- Pepe Verde Tawerna: In the Manufaktura district of restaurants and shops, Pepe Verde is an Italian restaurant serving up generous portions and has a large terrace outdoors for warmer weather.
- Bawełna: Post-industrial restaurant over multiple floors in the Manufaktura factory complex, Bawełna has a mixed menu, with plenty of Mediterranean dishes, as well as hearty favourites like steaks.
- Restauracja Imber: Considering the history of the city, Łódź is underserved by Jewish restaurants. Imber is a homely bolt hole in a courtyard behind an art nouveau façade, serving soulful dishes.
- Szpulka: Szpulka is a smart, contemporary bar and bistro with a big choice of comfort food. It’s a good place to load up on breakfast before a shopping expedition to Manufaktura.
- Hot Spoon: Hot Spoon is a tasty Thai restaurant in the former red-brick factory Manufaktura complex. There are large, spicy plates of Thai soups and salads, as well as curries with vegan offers.
- Spółdzielnia: With breakfasts by day and cocktails by night, Spółdzielnia does double duty in the thriving post-industrial area of OFF Piotrkowska.
