It’s no real exaggeration to call Łódź’s main street one long bar crawl, especially when you consider all the drinking dens tucked into passageways and sidestreets. Here are some recommendations of starting points for the city after dark.
Owoce i Warzywa at Piotrkowska 217
Sometimes referred to as the “Manchester of Poland”, it isn’t just the industrial heritage these cities have in common. Both have a thriving creativity and a lively nightlife. You’re never short of somewhere new to try in Łódź and renovated post-industrial spaces like OFF Piotrkowska, Piotrkowska 217, and Monopolis are coming online all the time.
A great way to get to know the city’s bar scene is to take part in a well-organised pub crawl or tasting tour.
This vodka tasting tour, available through GetYourGuide, takes in 7 different flavours across 4 distinctive bars around the city, along with some typical Polish snacks and an introduction to the culture.
If you don’t like spirits, there is an equivalent beer tasting tour, where you can find out how good Polish beer really is.
From bars with a large range of craft beers on tap to atmospheric cocktail bars, the range and quality is surprisingly high. We’ve also listed a handful of music venues and clubs, if you want to add a little movement into the mix. If you work your way along the 4km of ul. Piotrkowska, be sure to follow your nose into the many passageways and courtyards – there’s a lot more than meets the eye. The food is usually good too. Here are some suggestions to start you off.
- OFF Piotrkowska: A hub of independent bars, restaurants, and shops, the post-industrial OFF Piotrkowska centre is one of the key elements in Łódź’s reputation as perhaps the most creative city in Poland.
- Brush Barber Shop: A quality men’s hairdressers during the day, Brush Barber Shop converts into an excellent cocktail bar after the floors are swept and scissors put away.
- Jabeerwocky Craft Beer Pub: One of the highlights of the Warsaw drinking scene, the Łódź Jabeerwocky Craft Beer Pub is a standout for those who like a well-poured brew.
- Piotrkowska 217: If you’re willing to take a chance on something off the beaten track and a little more unpredictable, the shifting venues around Piotrkowska 217 are worth a shot.
- Doki Gastrobar: A treehouse-like structure of shipping containers, Doki Gastrobar gives views over the hip OFF Piotrkowska food and drink quarter.
- 6 Dzielnica: Completely unique, 6 Dzielnica is a ‘hidden’ bar and events space that’s like a private party in a pretty Łódź tenement apartment.
- Bierhalle Esplanada: With a giant sausage clock on the wall and blue Bavarian patterns on the tables, Bierhalle Esplanada is the Łódź branch of a Polish chain of German restaurants and pubs.
- Football Pub: Never has a bar been so aptly named. Football Pub is a tiny bar in the OFF Piotrkowska district with a lot of character and a laser-like focus on its USP.
- Iron Horse Pub: A mix of music venue and motorcycle scrapyard, the Iron Horse Pub has the kind of authenticity that only cultivates over time. Friendly too!
- Keja Pub: In the Stare Polesie district to the west of central Łódź, the Keja Pub is a unique and atmospheric fisherman-themed bar with regular live music.
- Owoce i Warzywa: With an excellent branch in the north and south of the city centre, local favourite Owoce i Warzywa is strictly speaking a cafe, but it’s open late and has a decent drinks menu to choose from.
- Spaleni Słońcem: A casually charming cocktail and beer bar, Spaleni Słoncem means something like ‘sunburned’ and is a perfect place to sit outside in deckchair during the summer.
- Klub Scenografia: Harking back to Weimar-era cabaret, Scenografia is an intimate and versatile live venue to the west of Łódź, with a surprising variety of performers.
- Klub DOM: The name means ‘home’. Klub DOM has occupied space in the OFF Piotrkowska complex since 2011 and is something of a Łódź institution.
- Lordi’s Club: With lasers, dry ice, and a full-on light show, all-night Lordi’s Club is literally the biggest night out in Łódź.
- Wytwórnia: Formerly a film studio and now part of a hotel complex, the mid-sized Wytwórnia is one of Łódź’s best live music venues.
- Atlas Arena: For many visitors, seeing a band or sporting event at the indoor Atlas Arena is what brought them to Łódź in the first place.
- Klub Wooltura: On an unassuming street in the centre of Łódź, the intimate music venue Wooltura is a lively place to grab a beer and discover new bands.
- Grand Theatre: The Grand Theatre in Łódź is the city’s official opera house with a full programme of music and ballet, in a late 60s socialist realism palace of culture.
- Filharmonia Łódzka im. Artura Rubinsteina: The Arthur Rubinstein Philharmonic building is a beautiful, contemporary performance space with excellent acoustics in the very heart of Łódź.
