Opened in 2023, the Center for Comics and Interactive Narrative is a museum space dedicated to comics, video games, gaming, and virtual reality, and helps firmly establish Łódź as the Polish capital of contemporary media.

As one of the newest attractions in the major EC1 – City of Culture campus, the Center for Comics and Interactive Narrative is about as state of the art as you can get.

The space is divided into two main areas. First, interactive narrative is covered in three thematic zones. The Retro Zone looks at video games from the 80s and 90s, with fun recreations of period bedrooms and tons of arcade games to play. The interactive Game Lab explores the process of video games creation, based on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The third zone is dedicated to virtual and augmented reality, and includes fully immersive experiences like an escape room.

Second, there is a permanent exhibition about comics spread across two floors, with a particular focus on the history of Polish graphics. This is a big museum with lots to do. Expect to spend around 3 hours here, although much longer is possible!

Most attractions at EC1 are open as follows:

• Tuesday-Sunday: 10am-6pm
• Monday: closed

Tickets cost 27zł (21zł reduced) on Tuesday to Friday and 34zł (26zł reduced) at the weekend. You need to book separate, timed tickets for the VR Zone (15zł) and this space is for over 13s only. Tickets can be purchased online in advance, although this in Polish and I found the website didn’t work well with all internet browsers. It is useful to check for the number of available places left. Otherwise, it’s better to just use the prices above as a guide, then turn up in person and buy tickets on the door. The staff will also help you navigate the different kinds of tickets available.

Obviously prices and times are subject to change. Unfortunately, I didn’t find the official Center for Comics and Interactive Narrative website very useful either. I couldn’t get the English language function to work and there is limited information about public holidays, last entry times, or accessibility.

The Center for Comics and Interactive Narrative is near the Łódź Fabryczna train station and is served from a number of bus stops. The closest is Tuwima – Targowa (Planetarium). Use this official Łódź timetable to plan your journey. The whole area is heavily signposted with maps once you reach the EC1 campus.
