With a different way of working than most restaurants, Francesco Mamela’s Trattoria Italiana has an ever-changing menu of regional fish and meat, cooked according to the customer’s taste.

Located in the Monopolis shopping and arts complex to the east of the city, Trattoria Italiana has a slightly eccentric interior, with a nautical theme, lobster tanks, and touchscreen menus. Family-run, and working with fresh ingredients, the restaurant is only open from Thursday to Sunday, when it closes at 6pm. Booking is advised for evening meals.
The menu changes according to what ingredients are available, with a particular focus on seafood, such as great octopus tentacles, tuna, and oysters. But there is always impressive meat as well. The chef Francesco Mamela also rotates dishes to represent at least three Italian regional cuisines at any one time, particularly Sardinian. It’s a good restaurant to revisit, as you are likely to eat something different each time.
