Łódź Walk of Fame

One of the many points of interest along Piotrkowska is Łódź’ very own Hollywood-style Walk of Fame. Here, the city pays tribute to the multifarious talent of Poland’s rich cinema history.

Łódź Walk of Fame

Łódź is justifiably proud of its rich cinematic heritage and has its own Hollywood-style Walk of Fame. The Avenue of Stars (Aleja Gwiazd Łódzkiej Drogi Sławy) lines both sides of the road outside the Grand Hotel in ul. Piotrkowska.

Established in 1998 by theatre director Jan Machulski, there are now over 100 of these brass icons paying tribute, on one side of the street, to the stars of the screen, whilst the other side of the road is dedicated to directors, cinematographers, and the other craftspeople of the industry.

Andrzej Seweryn got the first star and subsequent names include Krzysztof Zanussi, Roman Polanski, Andrzej Wajda, Beata Tyszkiewicz, and Zbigniew Cybulski. As with the Łódź art collection, any unfamiliar names provide a great introduction to a whole new world of culture for the curious.

Although the attraction is viewable at any time, for free, it’s best to visit early in the morning before the restaurants have put out their chairs and tables.

You’ll find the walk of fame on ul. Piotrkowska, between 6 Sierpnia / Gen. Romualda Traugutta junction and the Artur Rubinstein passage. New stars are now being added to the section further north.
