Tucked just inside Źródliska Park, close to the Film Museum, this renovated Palm House is an urban paradise and one of the city’s best-kept secrets. Spread over three glasshouses – Mediterranean, tropical, and desert, some of the 4500-plus plants have been growing here for over 100 years. Best of all is the first-floor cafe that lets you relax amidst the palms.
Palm House
In a delightful park, a quick walk from the Film Museum, the Palm House is a very pleasant surprise if you stumble over it accidentally. An architecturally arrested structure, it is a lush and dreamy retreat from the city outside. There are three pavilions, each recreating different climates and conditions. You’ll even find bananas growing in here.

Around 20 of the trees are well over a century old and date back to the 19th century, when factory owners had them cultivated in their private orangeries. Originally a tea house was converted into a building suitable for growing palms. The whole building was completely renovated in 2003 and has a strong educational programme, teaching about the ecosystems within tropical rainforests.
However, the secret draw of the Palm House is the Kawiarnia Palmiarnia cafe which serves sweet and savoury bubble waffles and a selection of ice creams and drinks. Surrounded by plants, this cosy and atmospheric first-floor space has floor to ceiling windows that look over the rest of the greenhouse. Amazing!
